Creating Links

Link Builder

Creating Links using PubMed

Follow the steps below to create stable links to articles using PubMed. This process ensures that people with the link will be able to use the blue GetIt@Duke button to obtain the PDF.

  1. Locate the article in PubMed. If you are having trouble finding it, try using the PubMed Single Citation Matcher.
  1. Locate the PubMed ID (PMID)
The PMID is typically located below the article title and author names. See image. Image of PubMed citation with orange box around the PubMed ID, also known as the PMID

  2. Copy the PMID, open a new text file (e.g., Notepad), and paste the PMID

  3. In your text file, add this URL string in front of your PMID:
    https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?myncbishare=dukemlib&dr=abstract&otool=dukemlib&term=

  4. Using the example above, the resultant URL would look like this:

By using this unique URL, you will ensure that users link to PubMed and will see the Full Text Link options to the right of the article. To obtain the full text article, simply click on the blue GetIt@Duke button. See image.
