Finding and Using E-Books

APA STYLE EXAMPLES

Further Information: For E-Books use “retrieved from” or “available from” followed by the URL to point readers to where they can find the E-Book.  If a DOI is available, provide this instead.  If a date is specified, provide this information.  However, if not use n.d. in place of the date of publication.

Chapter/Section of E-Book
If referencing a chapter in an E-Book include chapter title and inclusive pages if source is paginated.

E-Book
When referring to an entire E-Book, rather than pages or a specific section, use the following format.

Author(s). Editor(s). Book Title. [Edition number] ed. City, State (or country) of publisher: Publisher’s name; copyright year. [URL]. Accessed [date].

1.    Mann DL, Zipes DP, Libby P, Bonow RO, Braunwald E, eds. Braunwald’s Heart Disease: A Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine. 10th ed. Saunders; 2015. https://www.clinicalkey.com/#!/browse/book/3-s2.0-C2012001143X. Accessed March 10, 2016.

2.    Ball JW, Dains JE, Flyn JA, Solomon BS, Stewart RW. Seidel’s Guide to Physical Examination. 8th ed. Mosby; 2015. https://www.clinicalkey.com/nursing/#!/browse/book/3-s2.0-C20120012203. Accessed March 10, 2016.

Further Information: Often for E-Books there are no authors for the entire E-Book.  If this is so, start with the editor names and end the editor section with ‘ed.’ or ‘eds.’ depending on singularity or plurality. Include edition number if it is the second edition or above; mention of first edition is not necessary. For the URL, provide URL and verify that the link still works as close as possible to the time of publication.

Tip: When looking at ClinicalKey, look at the “Front Matter” for fuller citation information.
