Check the status of your articles in NIHMS or "My Bibliography" to ensure compliance and ensure greater access to scientific information.
Beginning January 2023, the Medical Library implemented an automated email system to assist PIs and authors with the notification of non-compliant publications. These emails will come from "Duke NIH Public Access Compliance" (nihpublicaccesscompliance@dm.duke.edu) and will include action items, resources, and contacts to help researchers become compliant as soon as possible. Typically, these emails will be sent to the PI listed on the grant that was cited in the non-compliant publication, though other authors on the paper may also be notified.
The data used for these emails is comes from the NIH's Public Access Compliance Monitor database (PACM). While this data is intended to assist librarians and administrators with compliance, it is not perfect. If you believe that you received an email in error or that an article mentioned in the email is not associated with your grant, the Medical Library can assist with troubleshooting, though we are not responsible or in control of how the data is reported.
In addition to basic troubleshooting, the Medical Library also offers one-off classes to introduce or refresh researchers with the NIH Public Access Policy. Classes can cover the basics the basics of the policy, submission methods, best practices to limit delays, and frequently asked questions. These sessions typically last 60 minutes, but can be tailored to fit the needs of any group or course.

Keeping in mind the limitations listed above, the Medical Library's NIH PAP Compliance team is happy to assist with basic troubleshooting. Typically, this includes checking for data within NIHMS or the Public Access Compliance Monitor Database, assisting with determining the submission method (A-D), or identifying where the submission is stuck along the process.
