A Community Member's Guide to Community Engaged Research: Recorded Trainings on Community Engaged Research Practices

This recorded session explores:
-The role of barber and beautician communities in fostering health equity through collaborations with academic researchers.
-Successful examples of community-engaged research initiatives involving barber and beautician networks.
-Strategies for building effective partnerships between researchers, healthcare providers, and barber/beautician professionals.
-Challenges and opportunities in advancing health equity through collaborative efforts.

The Examples from the Field Seminar Series was created to showcase the success of existing community-academic partnerships and highlight important lessons learned. On August 12th, Peggy Tatum and Meira Epplein, PhD will discuss how their partnership is working to raise awareness and prevent gastrointestinal cancers.

This Examples From the Field provide insights into policy for children with developmental disabilities driven by the voice of the community with lived experiences.

This educational session provides insights into how digital technology researchers can collaborate with existing community-based organizations to diversify research studies.

This Examples From the Field shares best practice methods of community partners and researchers working together to address food insufficiencies in rural and urban communities. It highlights the work of CERI's partners from the Eva Clayton Rural Agricultural Institute and our Population Health Awardee, Root Causes, and their work and research outcomes.

From this learning session, you will:

Identify U.S. and N.C. health disparities in maternal/infant mortality and morbidity.

Develop an understanding of the importance of community engagement and the community's voice in having a culturally appropriate and concordant maternal workforce.

Gain insights into the role of a doula in bridging the gap between underserved and marginalized communities and how community-engaged research findings support this approach to address systemic disparities.

Understand how doulas bridge the gap between the underserved, non-privileged, and marginalized communities with understanding the role each person plays in the puzzle of injustice.

Examine, Understand, Own, Accept, and Correct our own personal conscious and unconscious biases and respectfully help others see their biases.

From this educational learning session, you will:
Define and explain the existing disparities in maternal and child health outcomes in North Carolina, including an examination of the social determinants of health contributing to these disparities.

Discuss the significance of communities collaborating with researchers to address these issues, providing examples of successful Community-Engaged Research strategies.

Examine practical strategies of community engagement and con-designed research that has demonstrated improvements in birth outcomes at local, regional, and national levels.
