Turning the Pages Mobile

The popular interactive program, Turning The Pages, already available in touchscreen-equipped kiosks and as an online Web version, has been extended to an iPad application by research engineers at the NLM's Lister Hill Center. Users with an iPad can now enjoy access to rare, historic biomedical books in NLM's collection through this app. They can turn and magnify the digitized pages, and call up curatorial descriptions of the books, all by touch. At present, the books available are Hanaoka Seishu's Surgical Casebook and Hieronymus Brunschwig's Liber de Arte Distilland, with others to follow. Download the app from Apple iTunes at
