Duke LifePoint Services: Tips for Making Requests

Contact Information

Ordering, Retrieval & Delivery Tips

Tips for making your request:

  1. Always fill in all of the request fields you have the information for.
  2. Do NOT abbreviate, especially journal titles.
  3. Include PubMed ID # (PMID) whenever possible. It speeds up the process and assures you of getting exactly what you need.
  4. Finding the citation in PubMed can save you money if you find a free-full-text version.
  5. Set up an email account to receive articles that can be accessed by multiple people so if your primary contact is on vacation, others can still access incoming articles. Example: AnyLibraryILL@gmail.com
  6. Normally, requests are received within 24 hrs. and completed within 48-72 hrs.  You can mark a request “Rush” if you need it quicker.  Please call to alert us after placing a “Rush” request to get an expected turnaround time.
  7. We always try to provide you with the best scan/copy quality possible, but if mistakes happen, call or use the cover sheet that comes with the article to let us know and we’ll do what we can to make it right.

How do I find the PMID?

Use the PubMed Single Citation Matcher.

You can use the library’s catalog --  http://search.library.duke.edu/  -- to see if we own a journal title and what volumes of that title we own.
