As creators of new scholarly works, PhD students are in a unique position to influence the market for such works in ways that will benefit scholars themselves and the academy as a whole. This workshop will discuss scholars as copyright holders, the management of rights for the greatest advantage, and the benefits and pitfalls of various “flavor” of open access.

In an era of globalization, issues of connectivity and access to information concerning health care and health related systems remain uneven across the world. Duke students and faculty from Trinity College and the Duke Global Health Institute will discuss their experiences with information access in health projects around the world, as well as their interactions with health consumers and professionals in other countries.

- OASIS Open Access Scholarly Information Sourcebook OASIS aims to provide an authoritative ‘sourcebook’ on Open Access, covering the concept, principles, advantages, approaches and means to achieving it. It has resources for researchers, administrators, students, librarians, and the general public.
- Open Access A brochure (PDF) created on OA created by SPARC, Association of Research Libraries, and Association of College and Research Libraries.
- Right to Research The student guide to opening access to scholarship. Brochure (PDF) developed by ARL and SPARC.
- The Science Commons Designs strategies and tools for faster, more efficient web-enabled scientific research.
- Educational Materials about OA An open access Wiki with materials for teaching about OA.
